The handle of the knife is inlayed on both sides with Jet & Azurite. Jet, a mineral from the American southwest is sometimes called black amber. It is prized for its mirror-deep reflections. It's neutral, jet-black color provides a popular accent stone.

Azurite is an important ore of copper. It is a very popular mineral because of its unparalleled color, a deep blue called azure, hence the name. The Azurite used by Santa Fe Stoneworks is mined in Arizona.

This 3" Folding Lockback Pocket Knife by Santa Fe Stoneworks is presently in stock and can be shipped immediately.

About the Work

Damascus steel refers to the legendary blade material of edged weapons used by the Saracens who made short work of the Crusaders in the Middle Ages. Although the process of creating Damascus Steel dates back to biblical times, perhaps the best known use for this steel is in the swords of feudal Japan.

The Damascus steel used in this knife comes from japan and is called "sanmai damascus" or sandwich damascus. In a very labor-intensive process, high and low carbon steels are combined as welded layers. There is a core of vg-10 steel with 16 layers of stainless steel on each side to produce a rust free damascus blade. Damascus steel is characterized by it's strength, edge holding ability, and it's dramatic appearance. Damascus blades are prized for their beauty, flexibility, and strength.
