Jet, a mineral from the American southwest is sometimes called black amber. It is prized for its mirror-deep reflections. Jet's neutral, jet-black color makes it a popular accent stone.

The Lapis is from Afghanistan but might have come straight out of the Arabian Nights: a deep blue with golden inclusions of pyrites which shimmer like little stars.
