Karen Federicci

Image

Living less than 10 miles from the famed glass center, Wheaton Village, New Jersy, has allowed Karen Federici to meet glass artisans from around the world. As a teacher of elementary art, she opened a hot glass studio in 1995, where she crafts blown glass vessels, paperweights, ornaments, beads and torch-worked marbles.

Studying with renowned contemporary paperweight artist, Paul Stankard, Karen was recommended for scholarship by Stankard with Loren Stump at the Corning Museum in 1996. She has also studied glass casting with Lucartha Hohler.

Each fine lampworked paperweight created by Karen Federici has a particular theme, and specific designs are seldom repeated. Karen first makes each tiny blossom from glass rods over the flame of a gas burner. After each setup has been completed, the work is encased in clear glass. Every piece is signed and dated by the artist.

Karen Federici's torch-worked marble series includes murrini and encased flowers, as well as her signature Oaxacan marbles, based on the designs and artwork from the people of Oaxaca, Mexico. All Karen Federici's marbles feature a KF signature cane inbedded into the bottom axis of the marble.
