Raj Kommineni

Rajesh Kommineni lives and works in Northampton, Massachusetts. After graduating from the University of Massachusettes in 2003, he started working with glass full time, and established Kommineni Art Glass. Raj's primary focus has been marbles and paperweights, although he also makes glass jewelry, small blown vessels, and custom pieces. His work has been published in The Encyclopedia of Modern Marbles, Spheres & Orbs by Mark Block & Glass Line Magazine.

"My art is created by a process called Lampworking, which uses a gas fueled torch to melt rods and tubes of clear and colored glass.

Once in a molten state, the glass is formed by blowing and shaping with tools, gravity and hand movements. Many of the colors in my work are created using a technique called fuming, which consists of heating pure silver or gold in the flame, so that the metals vaporize or "fume" microscopically thin layers of particles onto the glass. These particles adhere to the hot glass surface changing it's color.

Silver turns clear glass a yellowish color, giving shades of blues and greens when backed with a darker color, while Gold turns clear glass to shades of pink and red." ~ Raj Kommineni

Glass artist, Raj Kommineni has been working with glass since 1998, and established his own studio in 2004. Kommineni Art Glass marbles and paperweights have been part of By the Bay Gallery's collection since 2011.
