Handcrafted by Jeff Mckenzie, this Reticulated Silver Ring features a remarkable 5.77 ct Blue Moonstone and two 0.12 ct Sapphires, set in handmade 18K Gold bezels.

We currently have this ring in size 8. Please call for additional sizes, as this ring can be sized from size 7-9, and be aware that additional time must be allowed to do so. No returns on sized rings, so please measure carefully.

To reticulate silver, Jeff repeatedly heats and then quenches the silver in an acid bath. When the sterling silver is heated, copper oxides are produced on the surface of the piece. Quenching in an acid bath removes the copper oxides. This "depletion gilding" creates a thin layer of pure silver on the outside of the piece. leaving the copper inside. Once the silver piece has been heated and cooled enough times, it is then heated one more time, almost to the point of melting - in fact, it is actually melted, but from the inside out. Since the copper has a slightly lower melting point than the silver, as it boils and melts on the inside it produces a ridged or ripply surface.  Each piece is truly one of a kind.

Gold karat is a measure of how much of the precious metal is contained in a piece made with it.

18-karat gold contains 75% gold and is made by mixing pure gold with other metals such as zinc, copper, nickel, etc. The additional metals in 18K gold serve to make the alloy harder and more durable than pure gold (24K), which is too soft for jewelry.
