Rutile is a mineral composed primarily of titanium dioxide, a metal often used for high tech alloys. In it's natural state it often forms needle-like crystal inclusions inside quartz. This form of quartz is known as rutilated quartz and it looks like small bars or threads of imbedded gold.

Sterling Silver is an alloy of 92.5% Silver (.925) and 7.5% (.075) of a base metal- usually copper.

Pure silver is almost perfectly white, very ductile and malleable. It is concidered too soft for jewelry or flatware use, therefore the addition of small amounts of a base metal serves to harden the alloy.
