Best known as being the birthstone of October, tourmaline belongs to a group of minerals that is coveted for its rarity and the unique vibrant colors it can dispay. Tourmaline can exhibit pleochroism, meaning it can display different colors depending on the viewing angle, thus adding an extra element of depth and complexity to the stone. 

Sterling Silver is an alloy of 92.5% Silver (.925) and 7.5% (.075) of a base metal- usually copper.

Pure silver is almost perfectly white, very ductile and malleable. It is concidered too soft for jewelry or flatware use, therefore the addition of small amounts of a base metal serves to harden the alloy.
