Rare Gem Silica Chalcedony is set in an expertly crafted 14k Yellow Gold sailboat slide and accented with a brilliant Diamond 0.06 carat. The sailboat style is a signature design by Patrick Murphy. Size is approximately 1" high x 5/8" across.

Gem silica is the tradename for a rare gemstone with a vivid greenish-blue hue. Also known as gem chrysocolla, it is actually a member of the chalcedony family and not, strictly speaking, a variety of chrysocolla at all. Chalcedony is a type of aggregate quartz.

About the Work
Patrick Murphy has been making jewelry for over 30 years. Constantly in search of unique material, many of the gemstones he finds are often so rare that people have never seen nor heard of them. Nearly all of Patrick’s work is hand fabricated including lapidary, since it is difficult to find cutters who are able to produce the shapes and sizes that he requires. Most gems are set in bezels because it makes a clean frame around the stone. Also, bezels are much more secure that other types of settings.
